Income Growth in the UK Economy Revised Upwards

The UK's official statistics office announced that household income increased at a faster rate than expected in the first six months of the year. Between January and June, the increase in income per capita was recorded at 1.1%. This increase is seen as a sign of the resilience of the UK economy since the onset of conflicts in the Middle East.
It was noted that the UK's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.5% in the second quarter, compared to previous estimates of 0.4%. Thus, the UK economy grew at the same pace as the US in the first half of the year. The growth in the first quarter was 0.6%. According to economists, these positive developments have been further strengthened by the impact of the government's new policies.
An increase in the rate at which households are depositing their rising incomes into savings accounts was also observed. The savings rate rose from 8.6% in the first quarter to 8.8% in the second quarter. Thomas Watts, a fund manager at Julius Baer private bank, stated that these figures are good news for the new government, indicating how resilient the UK economy has been since the start of the US-Israel war.
The UK ranks second among G7 countries in terms of growth rates, following Canada. Additionally, it was recorded that businesses increased their investments, with business investments rising by 1.8% in the second quarter. Kathleen Brooks, Director of Research at XTB, noted that the positive atmosphere in the markets and the strong growth of the services sector contributed to these figures.
These economic data may influence the Bank of England's future interest rate policies. With inflation at 3.1% and remaining above the targeted 2% inflation rate, the possibility of the bank raising interest rates is being brought into question. Money markets have begun to speculate that the UK's strong growth rate could force the Bank of England to raise rates.
