Borrowing Costs in Advanced Economies Reach Highest Level Since 2008 Crisis

In advanced economies, government borrowing costs have reached their highest level since the 2008 financial crisis, raising concerns among investors. The recent Middle East crisis has brought fears that inflation will remain persistently high, increasing yields on government bonds in countries like Paris, Berlin, Washington, Tokyo, and London.

The yield on France's 30-year bonds has risen to 4.8558%, the highest level since September 2008. Similarly, France's 10-year bond yield has reached 4.0516%, the highest since June 2009. Germany's 10-year bond yield has also risen to 3.2138%, the highest since 2011. This situation is due to investors demanding higher returns because of rising prices.

Concerns that central banks will tighten monetary policies to control inflation have led to an increase in bond yields. Market data shows that the European Central Bank has about an 85% chance of raising interest rates in September. The crisis in the Middle East has also increased oil prices, negatively affecting investors' risk perception.

In the U.S., long-term government borrowing costs have risen to 5.29%, the highest level since 2007. The prices of government bonds in the United Kingdom and Italy have also fallen as their yields have increased. In Japan, the 10-year bond yield has reached its highest level in three decades; investors believe that the Bank of Japan is likely to raise interest rates soon. The country's latest GDP report revealed that growth was weaker than expected, increasing uncertainties in the markets.

Economic uncertainties and rising inflation pressures are affecting borrowing costs in advanced countries, requiring investors to be more cautious. This situation will be determined by how governments manage their fiscal policies and how they cope with inflation.
