One Week Report Deadline Given to Air Traffic Control Director After Flight Chaos in England

The director of Nats, the air traffic control service provider in England, has been tasked with submitting a report within a week to explain the reasons behind the major flight chaos. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander stated that the technical issue was not inevitable and announced that an independent review has been initiated. This situation led to a serious chaos that negatively affected the travel plans of hundreds of thousands of passengers. After a meeting with Nats CEO Martin Rolfe, Alexander expressed that the source of the problem was a technical failure at the Swanwick facilities. The Secretary emphasized that this incident was not caused by a cyber attack, but such issues could have been prevented. As flight cancellations exceeded 2,000, a large number of passengers were forced to wait on the ground for hours, with some having to spend the night at airports. Airlines demanded Rolfe's resignation, arguing that the situation needed to be addressed. Ryanair and Wizz Air stated that Nats' air traffic control system is one of the most expensive in Europe and has repeatedly failed. Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary expressed that this situation is unacceptable.
