Trump Introduces 'Super Intelligence Task Force' to Oversee Artificial Intelligence Policy

U.S. President Donald Trump has introduced a new task force focused on artificial intelligence. This structure, called the "Super Intelligence Task Force," will be led by National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton. Trump stated that this new formation will contribute to maintaining America's leadership in this technology field and will coordinate communication between the public and the government.

On September 29, Trump signed a presidential decree renaming the term artificial intelligence to "Super Intelligence" and also announced that he had decided to establish a board to oversee artificial intelligence safety last week. This decision came after increasing demands from prominent figures in the technology sector for stricter artificial intelligence regulations.

The Super Intelligence Task Force will consist of a team that includes names such as Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The task force will report directly to the president and the White House Chief of Staff.

Clayton had previously stated regarding artificial intelligence, "When something is both an opportunity and a threat, it is necessary to take precautions against it." This new structure has been shaped particularly by the increasing pressures from executives of companies like OpenAI and Anthropic regarding the regulation of artificial intelligence technology. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman argued that the opportunities brought by artificial intelligence require accepting some risks, stating that the technology should remain accessible to the public.

Despite this, Trump did not take the demands for strict oversight very seriously and preferred that artificial intelligence companies take on the responsibility of self-regulation. The pact signed on September 29 includes the signatures of executives from leading technology firms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, and Google. Additionally, Trump signed an executive order mandating the use of the term "Super Intelligence" instead of "artificial intelligence" in official federal government documents. This change is considered confusing by some experts, as the term "super intelligence" may refer to more advanced systems.
