Ryanair CEO O'Leary defended his 'high-priced rapist' statements

Ryanair's CEO Michael O'Leary responded to criticism after labeling rival airlines as 'high-priced rapists'. In a statement to reporters, O'Leary noted that people prefer Ryanair's low prices because other airlines' prices are high. The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre requested an apology from O'Leary following his remarks, but he rejected the request.

In his statements, O'Leary defended his remarks by saying, "Absolutely correct." Targeting high-priced airlines, he criticized their prices. When asked by reporters whether his remarks were appropriate, O'Leary emphasized that many people choose Ryanair due to high prices. However, when asked whether his statements might disturb victims of sexual assault, he replied, "Rape is a horrific crime."

Rachel Morrogh, CEO of the Rape Crisis Centre, stated that O'Leary's remarks were an attempt to chase headlines. Morrogh suggested that O'Leary receive training on the effects of sexual violence and expressed that he should not use such statements again. O'Leary, however, stated that he does not accept that such statements downplay the crime of rape and therefore will not apologize.

O'Leary's controversial statements are not new. He has previously criticized Stansted Airport owners with similar remarks and used harsh language towards his employees. O'Leary's approach has sparked various reactions in both the public and business sectors, affecting Ryanair's image.
