Budget planning in the UK could be adversely affected by Donald Trump's conflict with Iran. This warning came from Bridget Phillipson, one of the key figures in Prime Minister Andy Burnham's cabinet. Phillipson stated that Burnham's past negative comments about Trump would not pose an obstacle to the leaders' discussions. Burnham is set to meet Trump at the United Nations General Assembly next week, and prior to this meeting, there had been two phone calls between the two. In a statement to Sky News, Bridget Phillipson said, "It is natural for different views on different issues to be expressed in politics. This does not pose an obstacle to building a strong relationship." However, she emphasized that Trump's military campaign against Iran has affected global oil supply, leading to significant inflationary pressures. She mentioned that this situation could complicate the budget planning of Treasury Secretary John Healey. While Phillipson expressed that the British economy is in a strong position, she noted that they cannot ignore the negative effects of conflicts in the Middle East on local businesses and families. "We made the decision not to get involved in this conflict, and it was the right decision. If Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage were running the country, we would likely be directly involved in this conflict," she said. Burnham, on the other hand, expressed that the challenges related to the budget would increase and that difficult decisions would need to be made. Phillipson stated that the country's national interests come first and expressed her belief that Burnham would do what is best for the UK.
