Ferrari's First Electric Vehicle Sold for a Record Price

Ferrari set a new record at auctions by selling its first electric vehicle, the Luce, for 40 million dollars. At the RM Sotheby’s auction held in California, this special model found a buyer for 35 times the price of a standard Ferrari Luce. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation's educational programs.

The Luce, designed by renowned designer Sir Jony Ive, faced some criticism when it was launched in May. Critics argued that the vehicle strayed from the traditional Ferrari design philosophy and that the brand had lost its identity. Ferrari's design chief Flavio Manzoni stated that these criticisms are part of the innovation process and expressed his belief that users will come to appreciate the Luce over time.

The Luce sold at auction stands out with its special wheels, customized brakes, and a white finish. Although Ferrari has not disclosed its sales target for the Luce this year, it has been reported that it has met its goals due to strong demand. Particularly, demand in the Chinese market appears to have positively influenced Ferrari's electric vehicle sales.

Ferrari's first electric vehicle represents the company's first step into the electric vehicle market and aims to compete with major rivals like Tesla in this field. The vehicle has attracted the interest of important figures such as Italian President Sergio Mattarella and the Pope. This move by Ferrari is seen as a significant turning point for the brand's future and stands out as a reflection of the company's understanding of innovation and responsibility.
