Asos Reveals Customer Data May Be at Risk

Online fashion retailer Asos has revealed that some customer information may have been compromised due to unauthorized access to its application systems. The company stated that names and contact details may have been accessed by a third party, while emphasizing that payment card information or passwords were not affected.

In its official statement, Asos announced that it detected unauthorized activity related to the third-party platforms used for customer communication and took immediate action as a result. The company expressed that its systems continue to operate normally and that it places great importance on customer trust. Customers were reminded not to pay attention to any unauthorized notifications they receive.

Following the incident, Asos's share prices fell by 14% on the London Stock Exchange. A notification sent to customers included a message titled "Asos was hacked" and indicated a link to a Telegram channel. Shares closed down 9.56% after the company announced it had a significant cybersecurity insurance policy, but it was noted that the potential commercial impacts could not yet be fully assessed.

The cyber attackers claiming responsibility for the incident identified themselves as the Xuanye Group, stating that Asos customers' payment information was not affected and that the application is secure. However, cybersecurity experts warned that such an attack could affect not only large companies but also individuals. Experts emphasized that customers should be cautious of fraud attempts and recommended being vigilant against targeted phishing attacks while awaiting official confirmation of a data breach.
